LAZAWO MONTH REPORT OF AUGUST 2024
Overview
LAZAWO team conducted a major clinic in Kinyang’erere village where 233 donkeys were treated from several conditions like wounds, trypanosomiasis, tick infestation, eye infection, worms infestation and colic. LAZAWO para-vet Steven provided follow-up care, as needed, over the following weeks – individually attending to a total of 125 donkeys between clinics. Additionally, he treated and vaccinated 20 new donkeys in the villages that could not make it to clinic, with a total of 253 new donkeys seen the month of August.
Accomplishments
- Wound management of different donkeys. We dressed and treated wounds on donkeys at major clinic and on home visiting, where by materials and drug used were Albamycin (wound spray), antibiotics (pen strep), antiseptic (povidone iodine10%) examination gloves, gauze and syringe with needle.
- Vaccination. We vaccinated a total of 250 donkeys against rabies and tetanus vaccine to prevent rabies and tetanus diseases.
- Deworming of donkeys. We dewormed all donkey 253 we saw this month in the village.
- Provision of education to the farmers on handling and caring of donkey (welfare). This has been done during treatment and on major clinic village.
Achievements and Success
- Vaccination of major diseases rabies and tetanus.
- Farmers have accepted management and treatment provided by LAZAWO-AAA project and more villages are demanding for the same project.
- Management of various wounds to the donkey which caused by different activities and birds
Challenges
- Many farmers live in a scattered form so lack of good transportation makes it difficult to provide service to more farmers.
- Drought, which leads donkeys to travel a long distance to fetch water for human use and for them to drink. Eventually, we would like to provide a water trough for the donkeys so that they drink from a separate watering hole from where the villages are drawing their water.
Words of thanks: The donkey owners thank AAA-LAZAWO for this project for free medical care which is helping to save to their donkeys.
NOTE
- Next CLINIC will be held on 6th and 7th September
